The Global Flavor Lexicon sits at the intersection of research and culture. It maps how people around the world use the senses — taste, smell, texture, and tone — to express emotion, identity, and belonging.

Each entry captures more than meaning; it documents how language behaves when filtered through the body. Spicy can mean boldness, attraction, or defiance. Sweet might signal tenderness or irony. Cheiroso, in Portuguese, turns fragrance into affection. Together, these words reveal how humans translate feeling into flavor across borders, media, and generations.

This is a working research instrument, open to paid WTSA members as part of their membership. Members explore the full dataset, contribute regional and slang entries from their own languages, and use the Lexicon as a shared reference in cross-cultural sensory work. What began as a vocabulary becomes a collaboration.
