The World Taste & Smell Association (WTSA) is a nonprofit alliance of researchers, clinicians, innovators, and industry partners dedicated to advancing the science and real-world impact of taste and smell.

We operate as a collaborative working group and media platform—turning emerging sensory science into applied research, professional training, public education, and strategic action.

What is World Taste & Smell Day?

World Taste & Smell Day is a day of appreciation of our essential senses of taste and smell. It is a global day to celebrate all the ways taste and smell enhance our lives, to unite the community of people working in flavor and fragrance, and to raise awareness about taste and/or smell dysfunctions. 

Why?

The idea for a global day was born during the COVID-19 global pandemic, when millions of people worldwide experienced taste and/or smell loss due to Covid. Millions more people experience smell or taste challenges because of allergies, brain injury, genetics, chemical exposure, drug reactions, physical conditions, and diseases including other viruses, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and Sjogren's.  September 14th was established as World Taste and Smell Day with the goal to elevate and celebrate our senses of tase and smell.
