How do we build a food system for people living on the Moon 🌘, and what would it take to adapt it for a journey to Mars and beyond? 🪐

At IAC 2026, we’ll explore this together in an interactive fishbowl discussion with Consortium members and our wider community.

Starting with a lunar mission scenario, panelists will make choices under real mission constraints, weighing nutrition, food safety, habitat resources, crew time, and the experience of sharing a meal. Audience members can then rotate into the discussion to challenge assumptions and propose solutions.

We’ll map the decisions live, identify what a reliable lunar food system needs, and explore what must change for longer missions.

The findings will help shape the Deep Space Food Consortium’s roadmap.
