Dr. Jonathan Overdevest

Dr. Jonathan B. Overdevest is a distinguished otolaryngologist specializing in rhinology and minimally invasive skull base surgery. As the Director of the Smell Center at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, he leads innovative research and treatments aimed at restoring sinonasal function. Dr. Overdevest is also an advisor to the World Taste & Smell Association (WTSA), contributing his expertise to global initiatives on sensory health.

He earned his medical degree and PhD from the University of Virginia, where his doctoral research focused on developing immunologic therapies targeting tumor metastasis. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), receiving numerous accolades for clinical excellence and compassionate patient care. Following this, he pursued a fellowship in rhinology and skull base surgery at Stanford University.

Dr. Overdevest’s clinical expertise encompasses managing chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal obstructions, recurrent nosebleeds, sinonasal and intracranial skull base tumors, and related ophthalmologic conditions. He advocates for a multidisciplinary approach, collaborating with specialists in ophthalmology, plastic surgery, allergy, pulmonology, and neurosurgery to provide comprehensive patient care.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Overdevest is dedicated to advancing the understanding of taste and smell disorders through research and education. His contributions to the WTSA and leadership at Columbia’s Smell Center underscore his commitment to improving sensory health and patient outcomes.
